Abstract

The article is devoted to the theoretical heritage of B.V. Asafiev, which synthesises many problems and concepts topical to modern music science. Treating a sound as a special phenomenon, understanding the essence of phenomena in musical art, searching for the universals that define them – this is what musicology has been and is still aimed at.

By exploring the dynamic concept of musical form, its intonational nature, and characterising intonation as a special figurative and intonational form of artistic content, Asafiev to a great degree predetermined the prospects for future research by Russian scientists. Their works, especially those that in one or another aspect consider the issues of musical thinking of composers in different eras and cultures, psychology of musical perception, have a tendency to study the deep semantic structures of musical text, form-intonation, and semantics of musical speech.
