Abstract

This article explores the author's developing theory of plasticity as both an intermedial and intrinsically musical concept. The author distinguishes two types of musical plasticity: static (statuette) and kinetic (processual). Particular emphasis is placed on expressive elements such as rhythm and tempo, texture, and form in the phenomenon of musical plasticity. The author examines figure-background relations within texture and addresses the chronotopic dimension.

The study was based on programmatic music directly inspired by images from painting, sculpture, and architecture (Franz Liszt, Claude Debussy, and Sergei Slonimsky).

Keywords

kinetic and static plasticity, texture, figure-background relationships, pictoriality, and chronotope
