Abstract
The author of the article outlines the main principles of the competency‑based approach in pedagogical activity, relying on the works of well‑known scholars. Based on a synthesis of the results of scientific research on this issue, and taking into account the specifics of a teacher’s work, the types included in the structure of their professional competence are identified: special, psycholo-pedagogical, methodological, creative, and informative and communicative. The author focuses on the competencies of a music teacher, including as information and educational competence, as well as information and communication technologies aplyied in the educational process. It is emphasized that professional competence is determined by the specifics of a musician‑teacher’s work and includes educational, methodological, creative, and cultural and educational activities.
