Abstract
Continuing the search of the previous 1980s, the composer actively developed a line of spiritual themes (including in the operas "The Enchanted Wanderer" and "Boyaryna Morozova"). Staying mainly abroad during these decades, he makes up for his remoteness from his native land with the revival of "russophilism", with which he once began so vividly (at a late stage of his work in such works as "Ancient Music of Russian Provincial Circuses", a concert for the orchestra "Round Dances", "Russian Photographs" for string orchestra, etc.). Rodion Shchedrin has always had a tendency towards a pronounced concertante style, which reached its apogee precisely in the last period (Symphonie concertante – the Third Symphony, Parabola concertante – a concert parable for cello, strings and timpani, Sonatine concertante for piano, etc.). The mainline of Shchedrin's late work is its most obviousIt is expressed in the fact that he is moving away from the extremes of the avant-garde and is increasingly aware of and classical style landmarks (Concerto dolce, Concerto cantabile and similar opuses).
