Abstract
The article examines the history of creation, dramaturgy, structure, and musical language of String Quartet Op. 13 in A minor by M. M. Ippolitov-Ivanov. The work exemplifies the synthesis and embodiment of chamber music composition and performance traditions, a cornerstone of Russian musical culture in the period. Special emphasis is placed on the organization of musical material and the cycle’s unity, evident in its figurative, tonal, and intonational and harmonic dramaturgy. The author provides a comprehensive analysis of the piece, as the Quartet has not previously been the subject of scholarly investigation.
