Listening to Eternity (on the Sound Semantics of E. Podhaits's "Ode to a Greek Vase")

Abstract

This article examines the semantic parameters of sound motifs and numerical proportions resonate with the general idea of the choral composition "Ode to a Greek Vase" by E. Podhaits, based on the poetry of the English poet John Keats (1795–1821). The author reveals the word-images and symbolic-visual motifs present in one of the 19th century’s most significant odes, highlighting the essential characteristics of sound intonations and their visual and graphic parameters correlated with musical artifacts that evoke images of time and eternity, silence, beauty, and truth. The article includes visual examples and graphic illustrations.
